Halftones & Knocking Out Colors
Halftones
Halftoning is a technique used in printing & graphic design. It uses thousands of tiny dots to create an image. Why do we like this for DTF printing? It removes ink and makes your transfer have a much softer hand feel on the garment. Less ink = a softer, lighter, more breathable print. Halftoning will help eliminate the thick heavy plasticky feel.
Knocking Out Colors
Color knockout is a technique that removes certain colors from your design, allowing the color of the shirt to fill in the color. Why do we like this for DTF printing? The same reason we use halftones - it creates a softer breathable transfer on your garment and helps eliminate that thick heavy feel. This is great for large designs with solid backgrounds or heavy ink coverage.
Example
Shown on the left side is the image halftoned with black knocked out. On the right is the image on a black background. When you press these images onto a black garment, the black fabric will fill in the missing color while simultaneously giving you a softer, thinner print.
You can find a lot of halftone images in our gang sheet builder and listed as single prints. Anything labeled "halftone" in our shop is a halftone/color knocked out image.
We do offer this as a service for a small fee. See product listed below.
